Introduction to blacksmithing day
If you want to have a grounding in the fundamentals of blacksmithing and make some items for you to bring home then the “Introduction to blacksmithing” day is for you. During the day you’ll learn the basics of fire management and the essential skills of blacksmithing. In the morning, you’ll make a fire poker with expert instruction. In the afternoon, you’ll have the opportunity to tackle a more complex project under careful guidance of blacksmith Ruby. Previous student projects include:
- Arrowheads
- Knives (18+)
- Coat hooks
- Tongs and blacksmithing tools
- Bottle openers
- Marshmallow forks
This course is suitable for complete beginners. You will be expertly taught and guided, learning both the hows and the whys of manipulating metal to produce your own take home item.
The day will last around 7 hours, normally starting at 9am and ending at 4pm, though start time is flexible with an hour for lunch (lunch not included). Weekdays and weekends available to book.

What to bring
- Sturdy shoes (no open toes)
- Clothing you don’t mind getting dirty and is suitable near fire (no nylon etc)
- Water/drinks
- A packed lunch (nearby there are cafes and shops if you forget!)
- Snacks (blacksmithing is tiring work, you’ll need your energy)
